Suggested General Education Courses

These are the Suggested General Education course requirements that we, as the Mortuary Science Department, feel would best prepare a student for the Associate Science Degree in Mortuary Science and employment in the Funeral Service Industry.  These are the required categories, which make up the necessary 25 units of general education as indicated in the current Cypress College catalog

Category A – Language and Rationality (6 units)

A1 Written Communication – 3 units
              English 95/100 – Effective Writing/College Writing

A2 Analytical Thinking – 3 units
            Speech 100 – Human Communication

Category B – Natural Sciences and Mathematics (6 units)

B1 Life Science and Physical Sciences – 3 units
             Biology 160 – Integrated Medical Science

B2 Mathematics – 3 units
              Mgt 151 – Business Mathematics

Category C – Art and Humanities (6 units)

C1 Art – 3 units
            Art 150 – Ceramics Handbuilding
                       
C2 Humanities – 3 units
            Philosophy 160 – Introduction to Ethics

Category D – Social Science (6 units)

Health Science 277 – Cultural Awareness & Health Care
        This course also fulfills the Cultural Pluralism requirement for the ASMS degree program
           
Sociology 101 – Introduction to Sociology

Category E – Physical Education and Health (1 unit)
